Elkader Register, Thur., 11 Oct. 1894. Volga column.
Last Thursday morning the people of our community were shocked to hear of the death of Mrs. C. F. Bevins, which news came to her husband by telegram about nine o'clock. Mrs. Bevins left her home something over three weeks ago to visit her daughters at Fulton, S.D. At the end of her visit she started for home and on the way was taken sick, was removed from the train at Canton, S.D., and was conveyed to the home of a physician where she remained for a few days expecting to be able soon to resume her journey, but the disease bilious colic advanced rapidly, before her friends could reach her. The news came to her husband like a terrible blow. Her daughters, who bid her good-bye, so short a time before, are broken down with grief, and her many friends are mourning the loss of a kind and near friend. The remains were brought to Volga Saturday morning, accompanied by her daughters, Mrs. Oren Brooks and husband, and Mrs. Stewart Dixon, and the funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. G. Whitford, in the M.E. church Saturday afternoon. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of all in this sad hour.
