Elkader Register, Thur., 16 Aug. 1894.
At the residence of her son, A. F. Rogers, at McGregor, after a long illness, Mrs. M. A. Rogers passed peacefully away Monday, Aug. 6, surrounded by those nearest and dearest to her on earth. She had been a great sufferer from a complication of diseases for many weeks but bore her illness with great patience and was anxious and willing to go. Mrs. Rogers was born in Montrose, Susquehanna County, Penn., Dec. 2, 1819. Her parents subsequently moved to New York City and later to Oneida County near the city of Rome. In 1836 they moved to Green Bay, Wis., where she became acquainted with Mr. Rogers and was united to him in marriage at Green Lake, Marquette County, Wis., Aug. 29, 1842. By this union there were born eight children, five sons and three daughters, of whom three sons survive her and were present at the last sad rites. Mr. Rogers preceded her to the home above ten years ago. Mrs. Rogers had many warm friends in Clayton county, first coming here in 1847, living subsequently in Garnavillo, Clayton, Elkader and Guttenberg, returning to McGregor in 1882 where the later years of her life were passed. She leaves a brother, who resides in California, and an only sister, Mrs. B. F. Fox, to mourn her loss. Few sisters were so devotedly attached and so little separated all their lives. The sons who survive her are Frank B. Rogers, of Britt, Ia., A. B. Mack Rogers, of Denver, Colo., and Al. F. Rogers, of this place.
"Peacefully sleep, beloved one,
Rest from your toil, your labor done,
Peacefully sleep beneath the sod -
While your pure spirit is resting with
God."The funeral took place from the residence, Wednesday at 2 p.m., and was conducted by Rev. Marshall. - N.I. Times.
