Elkader Register, Thur., 09 Aug. 1894.
On Sunday evening, the 5th inst., at his late residence near Garnavillo, Jacob Ponsar passed from this life to the great beyond. He was born in Germany, Jan. 6th, 1819. Learning the tailor's trade he followed it for many years, both in the old country and here. He was among the founders of the Communia Colony in 1847, in which he took an active interest until it disbanded, after which he continued farming in Cox Creek twp. He was married in 1847 to Elgin Coleman to whom were born six children Robert, Bertha, Julius, Louisa, William and Theodore, all of whom we believe, with their mother, survive.
The deceased was a man known for his generous hospitality, and highly respected for his upright character. He will be missed as a husband and father and the community will mourn the loss of a good citizen.
The funeral at Communia yesterday afternoon was largely attended by relatives and friends of the family.
