Elkader Register, Thur., 19 July 1894. Elkport column.
A sad case of drowning occurred a mile from town Sunday afternoon, in which Tenie Eggerth lost her life. It seems that four of Mr. Eggerth's children went to the Turkey river to swim and this little girl, who was about 10 years of age, got into a hole in which the water was over her head. The other three children got scared and ran away, leaving Tenie to drown. Dr. Kriebs held an inquest Monday and brought in a verdict in accordance with the above. Mr. and Mrs. Eggerth have the sympathy of all in their sad affliction. The funeral took place Monday, burial in the Catholic cemetery.
