At the residence of his brother, James in Read twp., at an early hour Monday morning, Thomas Geraghty passed from this life, in his 65th year.

He was born in the county of West Main, Ireland, in Nov. 1829. With his parents, Lawrence and Catherine Geraghty, he came to this country in 1848, and after living at Falls Village, Conn., for three years, in June 1857, they came to Clayton County and entered a farm in Garnavillo twp., where they resided for many years, afterwards moving to Volga twp., the subject of this sketch becoming one of the prominent farmers of the township. Ill health necessitated his giving up work and during the past few years he has made his home with his brother James. Two brothers, Patrick, of St. Paul; James, of Read twp.; and one sister, Mrs. Lawrence Uriell, of Emmettsburg, many relatives and a large circle of friends mourn the departure of a friend, and the community the loss of a respected citizen.

The funeral took place at the Catholic church at Garnavillo on Wednesday, being largely attended by sorrowing friends from all parts of the county. The interment being beside the remains of his parents in the Garnavillo cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Note: Thomas GARAGHTY has a gravestone in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery, Garnavillo with engraved dates 1840-1894. Either the stone is incorrect, or the obit gives incorrect DOB & age at death.
