Elkader Register, Thur., 22 Mar. 1894. Local columns.

The family of Jacob Eggeman, of this township, are having their full share of distress and bereavement. Last week, Tuesday, they lost a little son of 2 years and 6 months, and on Sunday a little girl of 5 years. Five children are now sick with that scourge, the scarlet fever.

Notes:
- The children are buried in Wagner Twp. cemetery (aka U.B. cemetery) where they have gravestones- assuming the dates on their stones are correct, the son was August and the daughter Minna

- From the obituary of Jacob Eggiman:
"On December 14th, 1882, he was united in marriage to Friederike Heuer of Boardman township. To this union were born seven children, four sons and three daughters. In the spring of 1894 during a scarlet fever epidemic all of the children were down with the dreadful disease and in spite of the best care, three of them were called to their heavenly home."

- From the obituary of Louise Eggiman, the sister of the children:
"Preceeding her in death, besides her parents were two brothers and a sister who died in childhood."
