Mrs. LeRoy "Gus" (Marguerite O.) Schemmel, 77, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of McGregor, died Tuesday, May 16, 1989, at Finley Hospital in Dubuque.

She was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Gordon and Marguerite (Schrempf) Saunders. She married LeRoy "Gus" Schemmel on July 25, 1949.

Marguerite served with the U.S. Womens Army Corps during World War II, was formerly employed with the Illinois Central Railroad and later was a long time employee of O'Connor and Thomas Law Firm, and she was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died Aug. 11, 1980.

Survivors include one sister, Miss Betty E. Saunders of Dubuque; and three brothers, Gordon J. Saunders of Lutherville, MD, Rev. Robert J. Saunders of Manchester and Wilson J. Saunders of Waterloo.

Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. There was no visitation. Mrs. Schemmel donated her body to the University of Iowa Medical Center in Iowa City.
