Mrs. Mary Glidden, one of the earliest residents of Sperry twp., died at her home near Volga City Tuesday, Jan. 16, after an extended illness with la grippe and typhoid fever. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. John Cro_____ in the M.E. church Thursday, Jan. 18, a large number of friends and neighbors being present. Interment was made in the Taylorville cemetery. Mrs. Glidden was born in Carrol County, Ohio, Oct. 11, 1829. At an early age she moved with her parents to Indiana, from there to Wisconsin and in 1847 moved to Iowa, settling in Sperry twp. She was married to Charles Glidden March 27, 1848, theirs being the first wedding in this township. Eight children are left to mourn her death, some residing in Dakota. Miss Ollie Glidden, the youngest daughter, a teacher in that state, arrived only the day before her mother's death. There are also 19 grandchildren. The sorrowing family have the sympathy of all.
