Elkader Register, Thur., 19 Mar. 1891.

At the home of her daughter, Mrs. F. M. Miles, at Aurora, Iowa, on Friday, March 13th, 1891, occurred the death of Susanna V. Bachtell, wife of the late David Bachtell. Deceased was born in West Whiteland, Chester county, Pa., May 6th, 1819, and at her death was 71 years, 10 months and 7 days of age. She was married to David Bachtell Jan. 2d, 1840, and came with her husband to this county in 1854. For several years she has been in poor health and last spring she had an attack of la grippe from which she never recovered. Only three weeks ago she was called upon to mourn the loss of her faithful partner of a married life of over fifty years, and now they are reunited in the land where parting and sorrow are unknown. Her remains were brought to Elkader, and the funeral services, conducted by Rev. J. D. Perry, were held at the home of her sister, Mrs. J. F. Branch. She leaves eight grown-up children, one sister, one brother and many friends to mourn the loss of a kind loving mother, sister and friend. The bereaved family have the heartfelt sympathy of a large circle of friends.
