Our community was shocked Sunday morning to learn of the death of John Cords, who died Saturday night from the effects of blood poisoning. Deceased was a most respectable and honorable man, a good neighbor, kind fiend, loving husband and father. The bereaved wife and family have the heartfelt sympathy of all in their sad affliction. The funeral occurred Tuesday, his remains being laid away in the cemetery at Communia.

John Cords, whose death on the 15th inst., we announced in our last issue was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, in 1847, and was nearly 44 years of age at the time of his death.
He came to the United States while quite a small boy, and at the age of 20 years enlisted in the United States army and served during the war of the rebellion as a member of Company E., 4th Iowa.
At the close of the war he came to Clayton county and purchased the farm where he resided at the time of his death.
