Elkader Register, Thur., 19 Feb. 1891. Elkport & Vicinity column.
DIED - Tuesday, February 17th, 1891, Martha Fuchs, wife of Rev. S. Fuchs, aged 19 years. Our entire community has been plunged in the deepest sorrow and mourning, during the serious illness and untimely death of this most estimable wife and woman. Having only been sick a few days, with the best of medical aid and care, it was of no use. The spirit departed to its maker. Everything that loving husband, parents, friends and doctors could do was done. One and two physicians were constantly at the bedside of the departed, but no, nothing that human aid could do was of avail. The Divine edict had gone forth and took from us wife, mother, daughter and friend. Only a short year has passed since she stood at the alter a bride, the picture of perfect health and happiness. The deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bals, and was born and raised in Elkport. About ten months ago she was married to Rev. S. Fuchs, who has charge of the Lutheran church at this place. Their domestic life has been a most happy one. To the husband, who by the cruel hand of death has lost his wife and helpmate, to the parents and family, and to the little son who remains to remind his father of what he has lost, our entire community extend their most heartfelt sympathy in their sad bereavement. God's will be done. At the present writing we are unable to give any notice of when the funeral will take place.
