Douglas A. Geuder, 45, widely known Guttenberg businessman, died unexpectedly at his home about 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, 1983 of an apparent heart attack.

Services were conducted by the Rev. Lechner at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church with burial in Guttenberg City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gerald Block, Joe Moody, Dennis Randall, Donald Sadewasser, Elwyn Schaefer and Marvin Pedretti. Military rites were accorded at the gravesite by Guttenberg Amvets and American Legion posts.

Visitation was at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home.

Douglas Allen Geuder was born Feb. 23, 1938 in Guttenberg, a son of John and Ilo (Walke) Geuder. He was baptized and confirmed in St. John's Church and continued as a lifetime member. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1955 and served until 1959. In March 1960 he opened Doug's Steak House, and after his marriage Nov. 17, 1960 to Jerri Herman at St. John's, they operated it together. He was also owner of Granny's Second Hand Store and active in other business activities. He was a member of the Iowa Bar and Restaurant Association, the Amvets, Eagles, Elks, and many other clubs and organizations. He sponsored athletic and bowling teams, supported community projects, and gave help to many projects, causes and people.

Surviving besides his wife, Jerri, are one daughter, Mrs. Pat (Karen) Rome of Dubuque, two sons, Doug Jr. and Dean, both of Guttenberg; one sister, Mrs. Gerald (Jaleen) Fassbinder of Guttenberg; and three brothers, Merlin Geuder of Iowa City, Donald Geuder and John Geuder Jr., both of Guttenberg. He was preceded by his father in 1977 and two nieces.
