Elkader Register, Thur., 05 Dec. 1923.
Patrick Moyna of Elkader, Iowa, died at the Glawe Hospital November 29, following a serious operation.
Mr. Moyna was born in Monahan County, Ireland, July 10, 1854, and had reached the age of 69 years, 4 months and 19 days.
In 1883 he emigrated to America and after working a year in Philadelphia came West to Iowa and located in Clayton County.
On March 17th, 1888, he was married to Katie Lane who preceded him in death July 23, 1909. One child, John, was born to this union. On July 27, 1915, he was married to Mary Ivory, who with his son John and two grandsons are left to mourn his loss.
The funeral services were held Sunday, December 2nd, 1923, at St. Joseph's Church with Rev. Father Taken officiating, and interment was made in the Cox Creek cemetery.
Those who knew Pat Moyna intimately knew him to be a man of sterling honesty, consistent and intelligent piety, possessing a genuine knowledge of true friendship.
He was a man of almost inexhaustible energy and had a thorough economic sense of the value of labor and fair return for same.
He belonged to that strata of the Irish people known as Tenant Farmers, who, under adverse circumstances, were neither sycophantic nor cringing. Their strict honesty and admirable personality so influenced even their conquerors as to generate the expression, "They became more Irish than the Irish themselves."
God rest your Soul, Pat Moyna. You are entitled to the epitaph most to be desired. "Here lies an honest man."
