Death. the following letter from one of the actors associated with the deceased and a witness to the stabbing, explains itself. It pains us to record this melancholy finale to the fight. Mr. Scoville was a kind-hearted man and when not inebriated he was doubtless an excellent citizen. It was not supposed here that he was mortally or even dangerously wounded, but the dreadful result is before us. We have not heard of Dorman since the morning after the affray, but we learn that measures are being taken to hunt him up and put the matter through an examination. We are informed that Mrs. Scoville has resumed business as Proprietress of the "Lydian Varieties."
Guttenberg, Nov. 2, 1858
Editor Times - Dear Sir: Mr. W.H. Scoville died this morning at 2 o'clock from the wound in his right breast. It penetrated the lung and nothing could have saved him. The verdict of the Coroner's Jury was that "he came to his death from the repeated blows of a knife in the hands of John W. Dorman." Please oblige by making a little note of it.
Yours respectfully, Geo. B. Beach~Weekly North Iowa Times, November 10, 1858; pg 2
