Ruegnitz, Augusta (Blanchaine) 1856 - 1923

Elkader Register, Thur., 11 Oct. 1923.

Mrs. George C. Reugnitz, a long-time resident of this community passed away at the home farm near Littleport, Sunday morning, October 7th, after a lingering illness of several months duration.

Augusta, nee Blanchaine, Ruegnitz was born on Sept. 9th, 1856, in Volga twp., Clayton County, Iowa. On this farm, where she lived with her folks until Dec. 10th, 1876, when she was united in marriage to George Ruegnitz. To this union were born four children: Geo. C. Ruegnitz now residing on the home farm; Mrs. Martha Behrens of Littleport, Ia.; Mrs. Clara Ortman, of Hopkinton, Ia.; and Bertha, who died in infancy. Immediately after their marriage they located on a farm in Volga twp., known as the Aug. Benschneider farm. Here they lived for four years. They then moved on a farm in Boardman twp., near Elkader, Iowa, where they lived for four years then moving to this farm, where her father and mother were still living. Mrs. Ruegnitz was one of a family of 9 children, Lena, Louis, Charles, Anna, Wilhelm, August and William, preceding her in death, and H. J. Blanchaine of La Porte City, Iowa. Her husband died March 13th, 1923. Mrs. Ruegnitz's health became impaired about 5 months ago, which developed into a complication of diseases and a lingering illness of over three months and she passed away on Sunday morning at seven o'clock, Oct. 7th, 1923.

She leaves to mourn one brother, three children, nine grandchildren and a host of friends, attaining the age of 67 years and 28 days.

The pall bearers were: Henry Ortman, Christian Behrens, Chas. Piehl, Wm. Enderes, Henry Luehrs and W. E. Meyer.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. C. H. Franke of the Evang. Church officiating, with interment in the Littleport cemetery.
