George Washington Hageman, son of Balthaser and Christina Lorcher Hageman, was born February 23, 1902, near Elkport, Iowa, and died August 7, 1923, at Clinton, Iowa, after a sickness of two weeks duration, at the age of 21 years, 5 months and 15 days.
During the last illness of the mother, in the winter of 1919, George, with other members of the family, accepted Christ and was baptized, and although he seldom expressed his thoughts, he believed.
Four years ago George secured employment on the U.S. Dredge "Etna," at Guttenberg, Iowa, and has during the dredging season, worked steadily for the government, his being promoted at different times causing him to take increased interest and pride in his work until his last illness.
He leaves to mourn his loss the father, three brothers, Fred, Emil and Earl, and one sister, Ruth. His mother, brother Ralph, and sister Lillie preceded him in death.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. H. Meyer of Wood Center M.E. church, on Friday afternoon, at the parental home. Interment was made at Mount Harmony Cemetery.
