Elkader Register, Thur., 31 May 1923.

George Losch, prominent citizen of Elkader and ex-sheriff of Clayton County, died at his home on Wednesday morning, May 30th, shortly before 8:00 o'clock. Mr. Losch had been seriously ill with kidney trouble since early in January.

George L. Losch was born at Pittsburg, Pa., July 5th, 1854. His parents, John and Anna Losch, came to Clayton County in 1857, when he was about three years old and , locating in Wagner township, engaged in farming. Here deceased grew to manhood getting what education the local schools could afford. His father died while he was but a boy and responsibilities rested early on his shoulders.

April 28th, 1875, he was married to Miss Anna Kelleher, of Elkader, taking his bride to the old home farm where they lived until 1895, when they moved to Elkader.

Mr. Losch was engaged for some years in the sale of farm machinery and built up a wide circle of friends throughout the county and a reputation for fair and square dealing of which any man could be justly proud. He was associated for a time with M. M. Marshall in the restaurant business and was later manager of the Ford garage for L. A. Walch until he was chosen sheriff of Clayton County in 1918, serving in that capacity until January 1st, 1923.

Mr. Losch is survived by his devoted wife, two daughters, Kathryn, now Mrs. D. B. Simpson, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Miss Ella Losch at home; one sister, Mrs. Margaret Cain of Elkader, all of whom were with him during the last week of his illness; also by several cousins.

Mr. Losch was a man of high character, whose sterling integrity commanded the respect of all and whose genial disposition won their friendship. Throughout the county and elsewhere, wherever he was known, all will join with us in sorrow for his death and in sympathy for the bereaved family. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Brotherhood of American Yeomen.

The funeral services will be held tomorrow, June 1st, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's church, with requiem high mass. Rev. Fathers Taken of Elkader, Horsfeld of McGregor and Hetherington of Volga City officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery. The funeral services will be in charge of the local council of the Knights of Columbus.
