Elkader Register, Thur., 22 Mar. 1923. Strawberry Point column.

Stephen Arnold Ball, son of Japheth and Eliza Miller-Ball, was born on a farm two miles northeast of Strawberry Point, April 16, 1863, and departed this life at 6:15 o'clock Tuesday evening, March 13th, 1923, at the age of 59 years, 10 months and 27 days. Mr. Ball had been in failing health for several months but not confined to his bed until about two weeks before his death. He was the youngest of eleven children, six brothers and two sisters having preceded him in death. With the exception of spending one summer at each of the following places, Wadams Grove, Ill., Britt, Cedar Falls and Southern Iowa, his entire life was spent in the vicinity of Strawberry Point. On Nov. 29, 1894, he was united in marriage with Miss Dora Dunning of Strawberry Point, moving onto the farm one mile south of town which has since been his home. To this union three children were born, Hielmer S., Beryle E., and Muriel A., all at home, who with their mother are left to mourn the loss of a kind and devoted husband and father. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Arnon Childers of Kingfisher, Okla., and one brother, Japheth Ball of Arlington, nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends are bereft of a kind brother, uncle and a true friend. Mr. Ball loved his home caring little for outside pleasures, always happiest at his own fireside with his family. The home circle is broken to be reunited in Heaven. His toils are passed, his work is done, and he is fully blest. He fought the fight, the victory won, and entered into rest. Peacefully and sweetly our dearly beloved entered the heaven of rest where the sorrow of parting is known no more. Funeral service occurred Friday afternoon in the M.E. church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. L. C. Kirbry, and the church was filled with sympathetic friends who came to pay their last sad respects to the departed one. The services at the grave were in charge of Whitewood Camp, No. 156, Modern Woodman of America, Strawberry Point, of which he was a member. His remains were tenderly laid to rest in the beautiful Strawberry Point cemetery.
