Elkader Register, Thur., 15 Mar. 1923. Strawberry Point column.
Rarely has the death of a young person caused such sorrow as that of Clarence Schmidt, whose funeral was held at the M.E. church last Thursday afternoon. Clarence Cecil Schmidt, the third son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schmidt, was born on a farm near Strawberry Point, Iowa, June 24, 1899, and passed away at the home of his parents, Tuesday morning, March 6, 1923, at the age of 23 years, 8 months and 12 days. He leaves to mourn his passing his mother and father, one sister, Mrs. Mertie Rickert of Edgewood, four brothers, Ray, Ralph, Floyd and Fred, all of this place, also his grandmother, Mrs. Harriet Marshall of this place, and a host of relatives and friends. Strawberry Point has always been the home of the deceased, with the exception of two years which were spent at Algona. In the death of Clarence the community has lost one of its most highly respected young men. Short services were held at the home followed by the regular services in the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. L. C. Kirbry. Interment was made in our beautiful cemetery. He will not only be sadly missed by his parents, sister and brothers, but by all as he greeted all with a smile.
