Peter Bahr, a pioneer resident of Elkport, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ernie Hauschen, at Clayton, Tuesday, March 6, where he had been on a few weeks visit, following a brief illness.
On August 20, 1846, Mr. Bahr was born in Holstein, Germany, later coming to America and settling at Elkport. For many years he was successfully engaged in the carpet and rug weaving business at Elkport, and at various times, was elected to public office in his town. He was a member of the Lutheran church.
He was united in marriage to Miss Mueller, who died six years ago at Elkport. He leaves to mourn his death six daughters, Mrs. George Smith, Mrs. John Wittman, Lena and Marie Bahr, of Elkport; Mrs. Ernie Hauschen of Clayton, and Mrs. Walter Sauers, of Maquoketa, one son, John Bahr of Elkader; several grandchildren, besides numerous relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.
The body was taken to Elkport for burial.
