Elkader Register, Thur., 08 Feb. 1923. Strawberry Point column.
The funeral services of Irva Carpenter were held at his home northeast of town Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. Kirbry. Interment took place in the local cemetery. A few years ago Mr. Carpenter's mind appeared demented at times and he was sent to a hospital for treatment and when he came home appeared much better. He attended to his farm work and was always obliging to his neighbors. On last Friday he was at work splitting wood until about four in the afternoon and his wife thought he was doing the chores until his body was found hanging near the hog house. He leaves his grief stricken wife, and six children besides his parents Mr. and Mrs. Alex Carpenter of this place, also three brothers and one sister: J. J. Carpenter of this place, Elmer Carpenter of Cogswell, N.D., Weyland Carpenter of Fayette and Mrs. John Tinker of this place also other relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
