Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 28 Nov. 1918.
Mrs. Ole Benson was buried last Thursday afternoon, Nov. 21st, service at the home at one o'clock, and in the Norway church at two o'clock. Very many attended the funeral of this highly respected lady.
Mrs. Helena Mathilda Benson was born Nov. 7, 1866, on the farm now owned by her brother Hans Helgerson. Her parents were Peter Helgerson, who died May 8, 1905, and Joren Helgerson who is still with us. Mrs. Helena Benson was the oldest of four brothers and four sisters, two brothers, who are dead. She was baptized in her infancy by Rev. O. Waldeland and also confirmed by him., Nov. 13, 1881, together with Nels Hulverson, Peter Johnson, Rande Johnson, Kristi Glesne, George Thovson and Sigre Olson. On August 26, 1893, she was married to Ole Benson. The marriage was blessed with six children, five girls and one boy. Mr. and Mrs. Benson lived at Highland about seven years, then they moved to their present place - about a mile and a half north from the Norway church, where they have resided about 18 years.
Mrs. Benson took sick Nov. 14, on her way home from the Ladies Aid, that was being held at Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Embretson's. She had a stroke of paralysis from which she never recovered. She died Nov. 18th.
Mrs. Benson was about fifty-two years of age. She leaves a dear husband, four daughters, Jeanette, Cora, Oretta, and Miranda, and one boy Perry. (Her daughter Mildred died four years ago.) A dear mother, three sisters, Mrs. E. Embretson, Mrs. Otto Johnson and Mrs. O. Otteson; two brothers, Hans and Oscar Helgerson, and a host of friends to mourn her.
She will indeed be missed but our loss is her gain. She will not return to us, we will go to her. God be with us till we meet again.
