Private Carl Linderwell of Co. D, 117 Inf., was born in Smithfield Twp., Fayette Co., December 21, 1894. In the spring of 1906 he moved with his father to their present home in Putnam Twp. On Feb. 26, 1918 he was called to the colors. He first went to Camp Dodge. From there he was sent with Co. D to Camp Sevier, Greensville, S.C. He remained there but a short time when he was again transferred to Camp Mills in New York. It was only a few days before his company was sent to France. Being a member of the infantry he was soon on the fighting line. Here he received his fatal wounds, during Oct. 10, 1918. Carl was always ready to do for others and when he was drafted went cheerfully. His kindly and genial disposition made him a favorite among his many friends.

His mother died Aug. 20, 1908. He leaves to mourn his loss a father, step-mother, two sisters and six brothers and a host of other relatives and friends.
