Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 31 Oct. 1918.

Bennie G. Meyer was born Oct. 18, 1896 and died at Camp Dodge Saturday, Oct. 26 at 11:20 p.m., aged 22 years and 8 days. The place of his birth is unknown as he was adopted from an orphan's home when he was nine years old by Mr. and Mrs. Chris Meyer, but to whom he grew to be as their own.

The body was shipped and arrived here Thursday noon and was accompanied by Milton Klink, who left with him on Sept. 5.

The funeral was held Thursday afternoon, it being a private one on account of existing circumstances, Rev. Franke officiating and burial was made in the East Side cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a future time at the German Lutheran church when conditions are normal and the quarantine is lifted.

He answered his country's call and his life is no less a sacrifice that he died in a training camp instead of the field of battle.
