Thomas Joseph Moses, 72, of Monona, Iowa died Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. Thomas was born September 15, 1949 to William Jr. and Isabel (Ferguson) Moses in McGregor, Iowa. He graduated from MFL High School in 1968.

On August 2, 1969, Tom was united in marriage with Karen Welch at St. Mary Catholic Church in McGregor, Iowa. Four children were born to this union.

Tom spent his life farming. Farming was in Tom’s veins. Above all, Tom loved being outdoors. It didn’t matter the weather, he could be found in the barn caring for a newborn calf or piglet, fixing a broken water cup, or on the tractor grinding a batch of feed. He worked before the sun came up, til long after it set in the western sky. If he wasn’t in the barn, he probably could be found in the shed working on a tractor or piece of equipment or walking and mending the fence line.

Often times he’d enjoy a dinner or supper snack of vanilla ice cream and he could be found at the dinner table with a grandkids/great-grandkids or two on his lap sharing his ice cream with a fork.
His strong work ethic passed down from generation to generation, as seen in his kids and grandkids.

Tom did not believe in idle hands, and if you worked alongside him, he always had time for a friendly chat, whether it was a neighbor, friend, or one of his kids or grandchildren. He was sought out for advice on life, land, management, nutrition, mechanics and the knowledge he had accumulated over the years of farming was vast.

Tom was humble and not a bragger; he was known for his physical strength and strength of character. Tom loved his quiet life in the fields and pastures. He is a true steward of the land and life, and is the essence of silent strength. To some he may have been just a farmer but to those truly lucky to know him, he was so much more. Tom’s presence will be dearly missed every single day.

Surviving Tom are his wife, Karen Moses of Monona, Iowa; his four children, Travis (Nancy) Moses of Monona, Iowa, Torrie (Jessie) Moses of Monona, Iowa, Kandi (Chad) Gillitzer of McGregor, Iowa and Timmi (Sheila) Moses of Monona, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren, John (Chey) Moses, Ann (Nathan) Grove, Kaleb Moses, Emily (Trevor) Moser, Colin Moses, Cody Moses, Lauren (fiance’, Elfego Marroquin), Kayden (friend, Brock Lamborn) Gillitzer, Brooke Gillitzer, Wayne Gibson, Dana (Mike) Wallace, Kylie Moses, Kane Moses and Bruce Moses; nine great-grandchildren, Bentley and Colton Foley, Oaklan and Everleigh Grove, Beckett and Dixie Moser, Harper Gibson and Alannah and Amelia Wallace; and his two brothers, Robert (Sheryl) Moses of Monona, Iowa and Byron (Brenda) Moses of Monona, Iowa.
