Mrs. Mary Roeben was born Dec. 15, 1862, in Warren county and died at her home in Clayton Centre, Tuesday, Sept. 24, 1918. On November 1, 1882, she was united in marriage to Warren Shaw. The couple lived for a while in the state of Kansas, removing to Iowa later and settling in Read township. The deceased was the mother of five children, four of which survive her, the husband, who died in 1903, and one child preceded her in death. After the passing of the husband she made her home with the children who cared for her with affection and esteem, but in 1915 she again entered the holy bonds of wedlock and was married to Johann Frederick Roeben. From a farm in the southern part of Read township they soon removed to Clayton Centre, and the few short years of their married life were happy ones. She reached an age past 55 years. The funeral was held Friday afternoon, Sept. 27, Rev. Athenstaedt officiating. The casket was covered with many floral offerings.
