Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 11 July 1918.
Death's summons came to Ed. H. Tangeman last Monday afternoon with a suddenness that startled everyone. Mr. Tangeman, who lives about three and one-half miles southwest of Elkader, had been in town before noon and on returning home ate a hearty dinner, apparently in the best of health. Shortly after dinner he, assisted by other members of the family, drove a cow to the Kelly farm close by and exerted himself considerably. On the way back he complained of being ill and fell, death coming quickly. The cause was pronounced heart failure.
Edward Henry Tangeman was born in Read township, Clayton county, Feb. 17th, 1863 and thus was a few months more than 55 years of age. He was one of a family of ten children born to C. H. and Wilhelmine (Koop) Tangeman, of whom seven survive. They are Julius H. and William A., of Garnavillo; August, of Haywarden, Sask., Canada; Henry J., of Gretna, Neb.; Ben. G., living near McGregor; Mrs. Henry Limbach and Mrs. Fred Schmidt, of Garnavillo.
Mr. Tangeman grew to manhood on the farm. He was baptized in the Lutheran church at Garnavillo, June 26, 1864, and received his confirmation in the same place March 16, 1879. January 15th, 1891 he was married to Miss Bertha L. Schumacher, at Garnavillo, and she, with four daughters, Mrs. Hilda Kuehl, of Read township; Minnie, Margaret and Alma, at home, mourn his untimely death.
In 1910 Mr. Tangeman moved to Boardman township, purchasing the farm where the family has since resided.
Deceased was widely known and highly regarded. He was honest and industrious with a friendly and social disposition. A lover of children, his kindness to them made him a universal favorite with them.
Not only his own family but many others will sorrow over the loss of a good friend.
The funeral services will be held tomorrow, Friday, at the home at 12:00 o'clock noon, and at the Evangelical church in Elkader at 1:00 o'clock p.m., Rev. C. H. Franke officiating. Interment will be in the Garnavillo cemetery.
