Elmer Christian Claus Meier, youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. William Meier, was born on June 15, 1887, at Garnavillo, Iowa, and died on Saturday morning, May 4, 1918, at 6:45 a.m.
He received his early education in the schools of Garnavillo, later going to Beloit, Wis. In 1901 he was confirmed by Rev. Sommerlad, pastor of St. Paul's church.
He was united in marriage to Emma Overbeck, of Luana, in 1907, and on Sept. 27, 1913, she passed away. On Oct. 27, 1915, he married Martha Schuette, of Cedarburg, Wis. One child, Lorraine Christian Wilhelm blessed this union.
The deceased's last sickness dated from April 5th when he was compelled to take to his bed. On Thursday his condition became alarming and on Saturday morning he passed away. He had reached the age of 30 years, 10 months and 9 days.
Besides his wife, son and father he leaves one brother, Carl, of Postville, and four sisters, Mrs. Wm. Moellering, Mrs. H. H. Dettmer and Mrs. Aug. Backhaus of Garnavillo, and Mrs. Henry Martin of Monona, besides a host of relatives and friends. The mother died on July 28, 1886, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Berns, in 1913.
Funeral services were held on Monday at St. Paul's church, Rev. Braun officiating.
