Kathryn Mary Emerson, daughter of Loyd and Mary (O'Dea) Emerson, was born February 2, 1913, at Strawberry Point, Iowa. She graduated from Strawberry Point High School and worked at the Franklin Hotel, which was owed by Mr. and Mrs. Reagan. When they purchased the hotel in West Union and moved there, Kathryn moved also to continue working for them. In 1937, when she was 24 years old, she moved to Denver to live with her oldest sister. She was employed as a cafeteria manager for the Baur's May Co. and Telephone Co. A few years later she was appointed general manager on industrial cafeterias and directed operations of all Baur's industrial cafeteria, including installations at Caterpillar Tractor, Neusteter's, Ohio Oil, Western Electric, and other major Denver area plants. She retired in 1974 after 37 years of employment.
On June 4, 1955, Kay was united in marriage to Orin Yeager at Denver, where they built their home and lived their entire married life. They loved to travel and visited several countries and spent winters in Arizona. Kay enjoyed playing bridge, reading, doing crafts, attending antique shows, and was an avid fan of the Colorado Rockies baseball team and Denver Broncos football team. She was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Denver.
Orin passed away in 1991 and a few years later Kay sold their home and moved to the Meridian Independent Living Center in Denver. Because of health reasons, Kay moved to Iowa in August of 2003 to be near her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orin; her parents; two sisters, Beatrice and Josephine; and two brothers, Tiffin and James. Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Lucy Leete of Elkader and formerly of Volga; her brother, Oliver (Chris) Emerson of Waukon; and several nieces and nephews.
