George Washington Shaw was born near Colesburg, Iowa, in Clayton county, June 27th, 1881, and died at his home in Colesburg, Wednesday morning, March 20th, 1918, at the age of 36 years, 8 months and 21 days. He had suffered with stomach trouble for a number of years, but was not considered serious until the last few weeks and his death was a great shock to the community.
On April 10th, 1904, he was united in marriage to Miss Georgia Maggert. To this union were born three children, Adrian, Hilda and Lester.
Besides his grief-stricken wife and children, he leaves to mourn his death, an aged father, three sisters, four half-sisters, two half-brothers, a step-brother and sister, and other relatives and a host of friends.
He was a kind, loving husband and father and a good neighbor and friend, and will be greatly missed by all, but mostly by those with whom he came in daily contact. The family has the sympathy of the entire community.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Methodist church, Rev. Philips officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Brown cemetery.
