Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 28 Mar. 1918.
Hubbard A. Stone was born in Hingham, New York, April 9th, 1831, about 87 years ago. In 1860, when he was 29 years old, he was married to Miss Ke_iah McBride, who died in 1913. In 1866 he and his esteemed wife came to Clayton county, Iowa, and settled on a farm southeast of St. Olaf, where they resided until 1891, when they moved to St. Olaf. This marriage was blessed with one child, Mrs. Leona Barnum, who so faithfully and patiently cared for her father until his last. No wonder that he even on March 18th, when death came, gazed at her until life left. Mr. Hubbard A. Stone had the telephone office in St. Olaf for twenty-three years, when the first line was brought to that village. He leaves Mr. and Mrs. Harry Barnum and two grandchildren, Ralph and Verdin, and a niece, Mrs. De Haven, of McGregor, who mourns his leave. Many will miss him. The funeral took place Wednesday, March 20, at one o'clock, Rev. Arveson conducting the funeral service. Mr. Stone was laid to rest in the Farmersburg cemetery by her who had gone before - his wife. As we part with our old friend and bid him our last farewell we add, "Peace be with you."
