Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 28 Mar. 1918. Strawberry Point column.

Little do we realize what a day may bring forth. B. B. Davis, one of our prominent business men, died suddenly Sunday afternoon about four o'clock. Mr. Davis had been in his usual health, having been at church in the morning and had been in down town not more than two hours before his death. He and his wife were just leaving the house for a walk, when he stepped on the porch and fell. Dr. Ainsworth of Volga, who was visiting at a neighbor, was called, but before he reached him, Mr. Davis had passed away, cause of death being cerebral hemorrhage. Benjamin B. Davis, son of John Davis and Anna (Fox) Davis, was born at Scranton, Pa., July 1, 1857, soon afterwards moving to Shabbona, Ill. About eight years later he moved to Iowa and located on a farm south of Strawberry Point. Mr. Davis was the youngest of ten children, all of whom have passed away except one brother, Reese of Glasgow, Mont. February 22, 1882, he was married to Miss Libbie Jones. To this union two children were born, one son Leslie D., and one daughter, Grace M., who assisted their father in the store. Twenty-nine years ago he moved to town where a short time he purchased and conducted a general merchandise store up to the time of his death. He lived not alone to pay his first duty to his children which he reared, not only to assist in their education and development of character and thrift, but also to assist in making the community in which he lived better because he lived. He used his influence continually for righteousness. He stood square against all deceit, trickery or questionable methods in business dealings. He possessed a kindly and patient disposition and made many friends and never purposely an enemy. If perchance he did, he loved his enemies. He lived a life of service. Mr. Davis was a man that was very devoted to his wife and children. His death was a sudden and heavy blow to the family and friends and brought sadness to the whole community. Funeral services will be held at the home Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. C. C. Harris, pastor of the Congregational church. Interment will take place in the local cemetery. Our sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones.
