Bill Leary, well known here, was killed near Clayton Monday night by one of the midnight passenger trains. It was reported that he was asleep on the railroad track and the train struck him before the engineer could stop. He was porter at the Zimmerman hotel here awhile and had many friends who are shocked at his tragic death.

Coroner W.J. Beerman was called to Clayton early Tuesday morning to hold an inquest over the body of Wm. Leary of that place, who was struck by a passenger train and instantly killed that morning, the body being badly cut and crushed. Wm. Leary had been a resident of Clayton for a number of years, and his death is mourned by his wife and several brothers and sisters. The funeral was held at Clayton this morning, Rev. C.H. Mead of Guttenberg officiating.
