Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 25 Oct. 1917.
Nelson A. Ready, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Ready (deceased), was born in Grant county, Wisconsin, near Brodtville, May 20, 1870, being 47 years, 5 months and 3 days old at the time of his death, which occurred Oct. 23rd, 1917.
At the age of eight years he moved with his parents from Clayton, Iowa, to Elkader, where he grew to manhood. At the age of 13 he became interested in the printer's trade, entering the employ of Griffith & Fairchild on the Elkader Register, also keeping up his school studies. Later he was employed by them as foreman and was always found faithful to his work. He also worked on the Guttenberg Press for a number of years, and during the last years of his life was foreman on the Ohio Herald, at Ohio, Ill.
Last May he left his position and came to his sister's at Arlington, being then in very poor health and since has been growing gradually worse, when the end came to him last Tuesday.
The remains were brought from Arlington on Wednesday and the funeral services were held in the Congregational church in the afternoon of that day. Rev. Isaac Cassel officiated. Interment was in the East Side cemetery beside his parents.
He is survived by a daughter Ethel of Dubuque, two brothers, Frank of Dubuque and Fred of Bagley, Wis., and two sisters, Mrs. Jessie Wescott and Mrs. Edna Shops, both of Arlington.
Nels, as he was familiarly called by his associates, was of a kind disposition and made friends readily. The friendships of many of his boyhood acquaintances have always been prized by him.
