John Seidel was born on July 9, 1838 in Gullsow, Mecklenberg, Schwerin. In 1874 with his two children, Lina and Ernst, he came to America, the mother having died in Germany. They came to Kendallville, Ind., where he was employed for 13 years, going from there to Garnavillo, where they settled on a farm where he resided until his death on August 11, 1917.
In 1874 he married Minnie Platow. Nine children blessed this union, three of whom died in infancy. Her death occurred on August 5, 1908.
The deceased has been in failing health for years, death being due to infirmities of old age.
His death is mourned by Lina Havell and Margaret Yost of Bagley, Wis.; Ernst Seidel, Palikin Rapids, Minn.; Fritz, John and Henry of Garnavillo, Frieda Tackman, of Garnavillo and Herman at home.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Rev. Braun officiating.
