Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 19 July 1917. From the "Nord Iowa Herold", July 1868. Translated by Chas. Reinecke.
On Sunday, July 5, a 16 year old boy by the name of Nelson Kiney was drowned in Turkey River, at Elkader. He came from the farm of his uncle, Fred Smith, to Elkader, and walked to the river to take a bath. He jumped into it but never came back alive. The supposition is that he was seized by cramps. An hour later the body was brought out by a boy of town. The boy was a step-son of Fred Beers, in Millville township.
