On Thursday night, June 5, at 9:30 Antony Wachendorf, night track walker for the C.M. & St. P, R.R., found the dead body of Joseph Riley, in the center of the track, 1 1/2 miles west of this place, with his head and both arms and one foot cut off. He was mangled and cut to pieces by a freight train. Coroner Beerman, of Guttenberg, was notified at once and took charge of the remains, which he prepared for burial, the funeral being held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock, in the potters' field in the Catholic cemetery here. Joseph Riley was 26 years of age and a bridge carpenter on the C.M. & St. P. R.R. for the past few years. He leaves one brother, John, three half-brothers, a mother, and step-father, Barney Kessel, all of this place. He carried accident insurance of $350.
