William M. Allyn, for almost sixty years a citizen of Clayton county, died at his home in Garnavillo, at nine o'clock a.m., Monday, July 9th, after an illness of only three days. He was stricken with paralysis.
Mr. Allyn was born at Ledyard, Conn., Dec. 28, 1828, and was therefore 88 years, 6 months and 11 days old at the time of his death. He was the son of Abel Allyn and Mary (Hahes) Allyn.

Mr. Allyn was a veteran of the Civil War, having served for three years, being wounded at the battle of Pleasant Hill, after which he received honorable discharge from the service. He never sought public office at any time in his career, being content with his war duties and to follow the occupation of farming. He was a member of the Congregational church.
The funeral was held at two o'clock p.m., July 11, 1917, at the home in Garnavillo, with burial at Kendallville, Iowa, in the Eddy Cemetery. Rev. Isaac Cassel officiating.
