Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 21 June 1917.

Elsie Thein was born in Elk Township, Clayton County, Iowa, December 2, 1916, and died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Marshall Yansel, June 14, 1917, aged 20 years, six months and 12 days.

She joined the Christian Church at Greeley about two years ago, and was a faithful member.

She was the daughter of Joseph L. Thein of Garber, Iowa, and leaves besides her father, seven brothers and four sisters, Martin, George, Joe and Fred of Garber, Frank of Strawberry Point, Charley of Littleport and Peter of Elkader; Mrs. Gertrude Hansel of Greeley, Mrs. Rebecca Winch of Elkport, and Mary and Pearl of Garber, an aged grandmother and many other relatives to mourn her death.

(Note: WPA records indicate Elsay M. Thein, 1897 - 1917, buried in Mt. Harmony cemetery.)
