Maria Elizabeth Moeller was born in Farmersburg township Nov. 21, 1871, the seventh child of Mr. and Mrs. John Mueller. She was baptized the same year by Rev. Seifert and confirmed in the Lutheran church by Rev. Sommerlad in 1884. She was united in marriage to Wm. Klinkenberg, of Farmersburg township, Sept 26, 1888. This union was blessed with eight children, two preceding the mother home. The remaining are Alma, Mrs. W. Voelker; Mahela, Mrs. Geo. Rehfeldt; Marvin, Elmer, Karl and Wilma.
Mrs. Klinkenberg had been ailing for a number of years and about a year ago an operation was necessary, and a second one also had to be performed. About six weeks ago her condition made it necessary to take her to the hospital at Savannah, Mo. She returned somewhat improved and all who knew her rejoiced; but the improvement was short and her faithful husband undertook another journey to Missouri. Upon recommendation he finally went to St. Joseph, where her life's journey ended, she dying on Sunday morning, May 15th, at the age of 46 years, 5 months and 42 days.
Besides the bereaved husband and children she leaves her aged mother, Mrs. Wilhelmina Moeller; four brothers, Henry, John, Wilhelm and Fred, and seven sisters, Lina, Mrs. H. Harnish; Dora, Mrs. L. Frederick; Wilhelmina, Mrs. Herman Klinkenberg, Louise, Mrs. Chas. Schmidt; Anna, Mrs. Aug. Kahle; Bertha, Mrs. M. Dickerson; and Martha, Mrs. Chas. Faber.
Her remains were brought back to her home and the funeral services were held from the family home on Wednesday, May 16th. She was a member of the Lutheran church and Ladies' Aid Society at Farmersburg, and the pastor, Rev. G. F. Braun, officiated, assisted by Rev. Athenstaedt, of Clayton Center. The choir of the Lutheran church of Monona rendered the music. The attendance was very large.
Through all the pains at times she
smiled,
A smile of heavenly birth;
And when the angels called her home
She smiled farewell to earth.
Heaven retains now our treasure,
And the sunbeams love to linger
Where our angel Mary sleeps.(Note: Both spellings of the surname Moeller/Mueller were used in the article, as shown.)
