Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 05 Apr. 1917. Littleport column.

Early in January little Howard Burrus Becker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Becker, of Ridgeway, Iowa, was taken seriously ill, and despite the ministrations of loved ones and all that medical skill and mother love could do to woo him back to health, proved unavailing, and on Monday morning, March 26th, 1917, this brief little earthly life of one year, eight months and fourteen days came to an end, his tired eyes closed and his pure soul soared away from the wearied body, to live forever with the Lord, whose love for the little ones is greater than even a mother's love.

Howard was born July 12th, 1915, at West Union, and his brief life will be a precious memory to the members of the home, around whose hearts his love in entwined, and will remain until the reunion in that land to which he has gone and where sickness and sorrow never come.

The heartfelt sympathy of the community goes out to Mr. Becker, who has been confined to his bed for many weeks because of serious illness, but who is doing his best to comfort his brave little wife, upon whom the burden of sorrow is falling so heavily, and who has the sincere sympathy of all who know her.

All that was mortal of this tiny flower was brought here Tuesday evening from Ridgeway, accompanied by Mrs. Becker and other relatives.

Divine services were held at the home of Mrs. Becker's parents, the B. Hughes family, conducted by Rev. Paulsen, of Elkport, after which the sorrowing relatives and friends accompanied the casket to its last resting place in the cemetery south of town. Herbert Towle, Ray Hughes, Ray Nading and Carl Ortmann acted as pall bearers and amid a profusion of beautiful flowers the little one was laid away to rest until that day of resurrection, when Christ has said that man shall rise again and families be reunited.
