Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 22 Feb. 1917. Front Page.
Mrs. R. L. Reierson passed away Thursday, February 15th, at eleven o'clock a.m. She had been sick for several months and had been an invalid for over four years.
Maren K. Olsen was born March 18th, 1863, in Marion township. She was baptized and at an early age confirmed in the Lutheran faith. In the year 1883 she was united in marriage to Reier L. Reierson, and they moved onto the old Reierson homestead in Marion township, which place has always since been her home.
In August, 1912, Mrs. Reierson met with an accident, which left her an invalid completely helpless, but the very best of care was given by the devoted family, physicians and nurses. She was so grateful for every little kindness shown her, that it was a real pleasure for her friends, when they could, to visit her and to do all in their power to brighten the monotony of her daily routine. Yet cared for as she was, it was her greatest desire to be released from her earthly abode, and this desire became fulfilled on the above named date, at which time she passed peacefully to rest with the fullest confidence of again meeting those near and dear to her.
Those who are left to sorrow for the loss of a kind and loving mother are Louis, Mary, now Mrs. John Wald, of Elgin, Cornelius, on the old homestead, and Ruth, who patiently and tenderly cared for her mother from the date of the accident until the final day. She is also survived by three brothers and two sisters, viz: John K. Olson, of St. Olaf; Ole K. Olson, of Forest Lake, Minn.; Olavus Olson, of Gunder; Mrs. A_le Olson, of Elgin; and Mrs. G. A. Koland, of Clermont.
The funeral services were held on Monday, February 19th, at one o'clock, from the house, and the Marion Church, conducted by Rev. N. Arveson, and the remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband, who preceded her in death in July, 1915.
