Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 08 Feb. 1917. Monona column.

Albert Surring, son of Wm. and Augusta Surring, was born in Waverly, Minn., November 2nd, 1867, and passed away at the home of his parents on February 2nd, 1917.

When a boy of about seven years, Albert came with his parents to Allamakee county. He lived with them on the farm until he reached the age of twenty, when he went to the Dakotas. By occupation he was a carpenter and spent much of his time plying his trade in Canada. While in Dakota he was married. His only son, Ruel, now lives in South Dakota.

About ten years ago he began to be afflicted with nerve paralysis, which insidious disease caused his death. Five years ago he came to his parents' home in a crippled condition, and gradually succumbed to the disease. He bore his sufferings cheerfully, striving to make the best of it without complaining. To his pastor he expressed his desire and hope for forgiveness and peace with God and through the Saviour.

Albert was one of a family of twelve brothers and sisters. He is survived by his parents, four brothers and six sisters. He greatly enjoyed the family reunion which occurred at his parents' home on January 8th of this year.

He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge No. 27 at Midale, Province of Saskatchewan, Canada, and retained his membership in that lodge.

His brethren were ever mindful of him and sent mementos of their regard to him.

The funeral services were held in the Methodist Church, Monday afternoon, February 5th, Rev. Jas. B. Bird officiating. The burial took place in the presence of many friends and relatives in the Monona cemetery.
