The death of Richard Menzel* at his home in Cox Creek township occurred Tuesday, the 16th, after an illness of six days with la grippe.
Mr. Menzel was born in the same township that was the scene of his death on November 22nd, 1862, and he was, therefore, 54 years, 1 month and 24 days old. He was the son of Gustave and Elise Menzel, and is survived by the former, now a man of eighty years of age. His surviving relatives in the father's family are Mrs. Mollie Schroeder, a sister, of Wadena; Mrs. Anna Schrampfer, of Osborne, mother, sister Schrampfer, of Osborne, another sister, and Gustave, of Cox Creek, a brother.
Richard Menzel and Elizabeth Broell were married February 3rd, 1892, in the township where they always lived, and the issue of this union is two sons and two daughters = Clarence, Carrie and Max at home, and Mrs. John Schrampfer, of Volga City.
The funeral was held at one o'clock p.m. January 18th at the Ev. Frieden's church, Elkader, Vicar Arno H. Franke officiating. Burial took place in the East Side cemetery.
