Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 11 Nov. 1909.
George Rinkert was born April 28, 1835, in Endringen, Wuertenberg, Germany. He came to this country in 1854 and lived in the state of New York where he was married to Christiana Kaiser in 1857. Later he came west to the state of Iowa and settled on a farm in Sperry township, Clayton county, moving to Volga City many years ago. His wife died twenty-five years ago. His second marriage was of a short time only.
August 9th, 1889, he was married to Lizzie Rucktaschel, who has faithfully tended to him to the very last. For the last three years he was troubled by rheumatism. Three weeks ago blood poison set in in a wound on his foot, which caused him a great deal of suffering. He died Saturday morning, Nov. 6th, at his home in Volga City, at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 8 days.
His death is mourned by the widow, two sons, George and John, of Volga City, one daughter, Mrs. Geo. Bachtell, of this city, five grandchildren and a great number of friends. The funeral service was held at the German church, at Elkader on Monday last Rev. Franke officiating. The service was largely attended by friends of the family. The interment was in the East Side cemetery.
