Jacob Peter Schmidt, an old and prominent farmer living northeast of Strawberry Point, died on Saturday evening. The funeral was held yesterday, Rev. Gilbert, of the Methodist church officiating. Burial took place at Mederville cemetery.

Jacob Peter Schmidt was born in Rhenish Prussia, Germany, July 9, 1832, and died September 11, 1909, aged 77 years, 2 months and 2 days. He was united in marriage with Louise Maria Trein June 17, 1858, who died May 5, 1905. To this union were born six sons and five daughters, of whom four sons and three daughters survive. All except Mrs. Louis Wolf, who resides near Vienna, S.D., are residents of Clayton county, Iowa. Mr. Schmidt emigrated to America in 1869, coming to Fayette county. In 1872 he located in Lodomillo township, Clayton County, where he resided until his decease. He had been a member of the church of the Brethern since 1892, and was in fellowship with the same at the time of his death.
