Sarah Gamby was born in Juniata County, Pa., Oct. 12th, 1831. She was married to John F. Hopp on April 24, 1853, and resided in her native town one year after their marriage, then moved west and landed in Dubuque, living their a short time.

Sarah Gamby was the last survivor of a family of ten children, eight brothers and one sister having preceded her to the home beyond.

She was 78 years, 9 months and 17 days old at her death. She was a true and faithful partner to her husband and a loving mother to her children, enduring everything without a murmur. She was perfectly helpless for three months before she closed her eyes asleep in Jesus. She leaves to mourn her loss, a loving husband, six children and 18 grandchildren. Her children, living so far away, none were able to be present at her bedside, but her only daughter, with whom she had made her home for the last fourteen years.

Those of her children who were here to attend the funeral were John, of Turnwater, Jacob, of Bellington, Tom at Bridgeport, and Ossea.
