Kate Cassidy was born in New York City April 9th, 1861, and died near Volga City July 2_th, 1909. She came to Iowa and Clayton County with her parents in 1868 and was married to Timothy Cox Dec. 25th, 1883. From this union were born six children, Mrs. Mary Ernst, of Volga, Katie, Andrew, Frank, Joseph and Thomas all living at home. In 1907 Mr. Cox bought what is known as the Avery Lawrence farm three miles south of Volga, on Hewitt Creek. Mrs. Cox was a kind and good mother and a good neighbor and was loved by all who knew her. She was a long and patient sufferer and all that kind hands could do was done for her. She leaves to mourn her loss a husband and six children and grandchildren, also a mother, Mrs. Ann Cassidy, of South Dakota, two brothers, Joe and Ted Cassidy, of South Dakota, three sisters, Mrs. Thomas Shea, Mrs. Mike Killirain, living near Platt, S.D., and Mrs. Chas. Scible, of Platt, S.D. The funeral was held in Sacred Heart church, Volga City, on July 29th, burial in the Sacred Heart cemetery of Volga City, Rev. J. Hetherington officiating and it was largely attended.
