Mrs. Smiley, wife of John Smiley, died at her home in this city Wednesday morning at the age of only forty-five years.

Mrs. Emma J. Smiley died at her home in Elkport on Wednesday, Aug. 4th, 1909. Deceased was born near Masontown, Pa., forty-eight years ago. She was married to John L. Smiley Nov. 01st, 1878, and came to Iowa in April, 1879, and resided in Clayton county ever since. To them were born three children of whom two are living, Ross and Lizzie.
The funeral was held Friday, August 06th, Rev. Hursch officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Oak Hill, Page cemetery near Colesburg. The deceased was a highly respected, kind hearted lady and ever willing to lend a helping hand to the needy. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community.
