Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 24 June 1909.
At the family home in Boardman township about 5:30 Saturday evening, June 19th, 1909, occurred the death of Mrs. John Stence, after an illness of several weeks, at the age of about sixty-four years.
Mary Brazil was married to John Stence April 8th, 1866, and to them were born ten children of whom, with the bereaved husband, the following survive: Michael, Ella, Julia, Mary, Anna, Martin, Ray and Katie.
Deceased was one of the loving characters of this life. Not only was she a devoted wife and mother, but to all with whom she came in contact she manifested a loving friendship. In sorrow she was among the first to tender her aid and sympathy. Such is the testimony of friends.
The funeral was held Tuesday morning and the respect in which the departed was held by her neighbors was shown by the large attendance at the last rites. Service was held at St. Joseph's church, conducted by Rev. J. F. Reiley, who, in his sermon, paid a deserved tribute to the loved one gone to her reward.
The sympathy of all goes out to the bereaved family.
